I am working on a laptop, which occasionally gives up the ghost, blues screens and displays the message 'PEN_LIST_CORRUPT'.

I am not sure whether I should retire the machine - or find out what the machine wants?

What does PEN_LIST_CORRUPT mean anyway?

You might want to check that, I'm pretty sure the error is actually.

PFN List Corrupt. not PEN.

Which means...
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

This indicates that the memory management Page File Number list is corrupted. Can be caused by corrupt physical RAM, or by drivers passing bad memory descriptor lists.

Go HERE http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic35103.html and follow the instructions for testing your page file/hdd.

Also, try running your system with just one stick of ram. Try putting the ram in a different dimm slot.

I did a search for Pen_List_Corrupt and BSOD

(Blue Screen of death) and most of the comments are related to Windows 2000 with RAM issue's. RAM for Laptops is relatively in-expensive.

Below is one of the search results
