Just one or the other. I like the USB wireless connector on my HP laptop. It has a little antennae. I put a wireless card in my Compaq laptop and it comes in second. The built in wireless systems in my two other computers seem to me to have less stable connections.

Your best bet is to ReDo it again. Don't put Windows Vista on it, unless thats all you have. I recommend you put Windows XP or Windows Milennium Edition, or Windows 2000 pro. Them put your wireless software on it that came with your wireless care, unless your wireless card didn't come with software, bring it to a computer shop if this dosent help!

All the previous answers are great - but make sure you actually have a wireless router - without one, your card/usb is useless unless you are using it with someone elses network.

Either will do, I would recommend a Linksys PCMCIA card or USB stick or adaptor, this brand is very simple to set up with clear instructions , I would get one with at least 54mbps, and they go to 108mbps if you need it, good luck
