I have a new A8N motherboard that will not boot. This is a replacement to another board that bit the dust. When I plug in the power cables the machine will turn on just fine. However the video card/usb ports/ethernet are not receiving power. The power supply is a Enermax Liberty 500. I am powering this up outside of the case, barebones.

The Liberty is a 20+4 power connector. On the original board I had a similar problem to what I am having now. I had to just use the 20 pin and leave the +4 off.

Idea's?

Hi, Im looking for a Uninterruptible power supply, but I dont understand the watts part that each of them have. Some say 300, 500, or 1000 ect. I dont want to buy one that wont work with the desktop. Any recommendations and info you could give me? I heard something also about if you use more than the watts it says it will overload or something like that.

Thanks, Mike.

I have seen some of the latest workstations from HP and Dell and they use xeon processors which is a server processor. Does this mean they are using a server mobo and processors, RAM, etc. to run a desktop computer? Can server hardware run normal desktop processes? Lastely does anyone know whether xeon or extreme QX6700 processors are better for gaming?

Have win xp pro home edition, I bought a used computer, pulled my old hard drive with windows on it and installed as the boot (only) drive in the new computer, upon starting up it says:

Windows did not start successfully possibly due to a hardware/software change, choose how you want to start windows:

safe mode
safe mode with network
safe mode command prompt

last known working config
start windows normally

I have tried each of these and it reboots and goes back to this same screen, when I had done this in the past (upgraded comp) windows would normally start up but would want to re-authenticate windows, but windows won't even start.

Any thoughts?

I am going to try it with another computer and see if it starts there, but if I put the win xp drive in the old computer I pulled it from, starts right up without issue.

Any help is appreciated.

About six years ago my evil sister-in-law bought a HP computer and I set it up for her. Now she is getting a windows drivers pci sys error, windows won't open, so I told her to run the recovery system on her computer, which is to press the F10 button upon startup and go through the system recovery process. She said it was starting the recovery process but she never let me know what happened. I don't know what's going on (she won't let me look at the computer itself), but now she is driving me nuts looking for a recovery disk, which I never took. She's calling me a thief and that I stole it from her. I recall that the computer never came with a recovery disk, that you had the option to make one but no one ever did it. I think that there is partition of the computer that takes over the recovery if there ever is a problem with windows. She is going berserk over this, someone (her ex-husband) told her that all computers come with recovery disks, and that I hid it somewhere on purpose!!!
