As noted, any person surfing the web is vulnerable to phishing. However, Macs really are more secure and it's not due to their low profile in the market. It has more to do with their OS architecture. That will always be a point of contention between Mac and Windows fanboys, though.

With an Intel Mac, you can now run Windows in addition to OS X. Also, running a program called Parallels, you can run Windows software alongside OS X.

Macs are more expensive, but have better resale value. Applecare, the tech support provided by Apple (for a nominal fee) is far superior to Dell's outsourced tech support.

It depends on what your looking for in a computer,If you want a comp....to play games on go with the ibm based pc.But if you want a reliable virus, hacker free flawless experience then go with a mac.Macs are what I personally use though there is (I admit) some good things about PCs but macs are by far the best.I still have a B&W g3 400mhz that I use all the time ..I'm running mac os x on it,do work on it with no problems what so ever it has never even crashed since I've had it NEVER! That alone makes it better..back in my pc days I was constantly repairing something whether it be hardware or software can't say that's the case anymore. Also macOS X is unbelievable I still find myself drooling at it's beauty and thats not the only thing that's cosmetically gorgeous the comps themselves are absolutly stunning.WIndows is a complete waste of time and MONEY (and I stress the word money) microsoft are copy cats to the inth degree and you'll have a ton of issues ..It's kind of amusing I remember my pops tellin' me he had to download an extremely long security patch and when that was finished he needed a patch for the security patch.Where as os x stays out of your way windows seems to constantly be in the way of what you're trying to accomplish.Macs are also extremely upgradable I could upgrade this old g3 to a 1000mhz with a processor upgrade in fact I recently upgraded my ibook g3.I could ramble all day about the pros and cons but I think you get the idea...macs rule!!

Realistically, the OS X operating system on the current production Apple Macintosh computers is fairly safe.

There was a bit of news about the version of Java that Apple includes in OS X that may have a current security issue that can be exploited over the web via a wiki based web page. But that's more a proof of concept than a widespread hack.

The hardware build quality is fine, but never buy a first generation anything from any computer maker. Something will tend to go wrong. That's why I waited until Apple shipped their Core2Duo Intel processors before buying a MacBook Pro (which I really appreciate daily).

I've heard both good and bad spoken of Dell lately. More bad due to failing hardware qualtiy. Compaq slid as well once they merged with H/P.

Macs are overpriced for you get although now that they have switched to Intel chips they at least have decent performance.

From the point of view of the user the only difference is that Macs can run OS X while other computers can't without a bit of effort (i.e. cracking OS X). If you don't like or can't use OS X then you're wasting your money if you buy a mac but if you do want it then you pretty much have no choice in the matter.

OS X is a Unix based OS so it has decent security (and would have decent security even if it were market leader, the idea that Linux and Mac OS are only safe because no one uses them is wrong, as much as it may make those few who like Windows feel better).

Though the biggest problem with Mac OS is that if you use then you get locked into Apple hardware and software while with Windows you only get locked into Microsoft software and if you use Linux you don't get locked into anything, that makes Linux superior for pretty much anything where Linux can be used (and corporate IT departments seem to have realised that).

I wouldn't bother with a Mac myself because in a few years everyone will be running Linux and under a Linux there really isn't anything special about a Mac.

"PCs are good for the stuff you have to do, Macs are good for the stuff you want to do"

Macs make a marvelous personal computer, although they are not perfect, they really are pretty much immune to viruses and malware and such. Macs also rarely have serious crashes, once in a while, a program will hang, but it'll usually kick back in soon or you can just force quit it. On a PC, however, it's likely to hang your whole system.

One bad thing about Macs though is that they are terrible for gaming. Not because the hardware stinks (it doesn't), but simply because most games are written for the Windows world.

If you're thinking in a business sense, Macs are the best for the creative fields (web design, graphic design, animation, movie production, music production, etc.). But I suppose PC's are the best for the business aspect (accounting, spreadsheets, etc) although the Mac can do that too.

As for me, I only use a Mac and I would personally never switch to a Windows based computer!

Depends what software you own brother.

Macs have less viruses, but it is partly related to their market share. Phishing isn't related to the brand or operating system of your computer. It describes the technique of luring victims to disclose personal information on a site posing as a bank, paypal, etc.

Ok... so take the advice that I told you at work, SAKO...

Okay... Macs are terrific for Graphical applications... Video Editing, Photo Editing and any other Digital Media Development is where Macs excel.

PC's have the stronghold on the gaming market.

So considering all you do is Blog and play an occasional game, a Mac might be okay for you.

The security on a Mac is ironstrong.

Macs definitely get less viruses than pcs, but that's because Macs aren't as popular as pcs, so viruses aren't often written for them. Macs are good computers but you can't seriously game on them. There are alot more games for the pc than for the mac. It's really personal preference. For me, macs are good, solid computers but they just don't work for me. A macintosh computer can't fill all of my computing needs like a pc can, (at least not yet). Right now, all of my computing tasks require Windows (mostly my games).
