your virtual memroy is probably already max out.
XP recommends that you have at least 512 Mg to run it.
virtual memory is the amount of space on the hardrive that you want the CPU to use as ram.
All this mean is that you don't have enough ram in the computer for it to run correctly and to keep things running it uses the virtual memory instead of freezing on you.

Just go out and buy some more ram when you get the money.
But the by the specs that you are giving you comp is older thatn my old one that was built in 2000 and it was twice as fast and had different memory than what they make these days. So they might not find the kind of memory that you use anymore.
I which case, time to shell out for a new computer all together.

You CAN change your VM but I'm pretty sure it's already set at max. VM isn't hardware you can add to a comp.. it's... virtual. What you can add is more memory, or RAM. But with your processor speed your pretty much maxed on RAM as it is. I'm sure you've heard this before.. but it's about time to buy a new comp. The video card I'm running right now is more powerful then your comp. If your a normal user then I'd recomend a Dell. Spend a few $100 and get something with atleast 1.5 GHz proscessor and 512 RAM. That's pretty much min for most of the basic apps now days... even things like word and excel are needing a little more beef.

Right click your "my computer icon"
choose properties
select teh advanced tab
look under performance and press "settings"
select the "advanced" tab again
at the bottom click "change"
choose "custom"
now set your Min/Max to 2.5x the amount of RAM your system contains. (in your case - 320min/320max).
Reboot.

if you should have a problem, go into safe mode by mashing the F8 button right before you see the "windows xp" loading screen. select safe mode and let your system mange again.

Make life easier for you, add MORE RAM. I've used XP on a P3-500Mhz w 3x128Mb RAM and 16Mb graphics card. It always had plenty of available memory and I never noticed it using virtual memory.

the quantity of digital memory or web page record could neither be to intense or too low. With 128 MB even with the actuality that, increasing web page record length could no longer strengthen performance. i ought to point you keep minimum as 256MB and optimal as 1Gb and get yet another 0.5 gig of RAM atleast. this may breathe existence into your pc.desire this facilitates.
