You need to tell us what kind of motherboard you have before anyone can answer your questions.

You are still on the socket A platform. Definitely NO dual cores for that. The fastest socket A processor is the Athlon XP 3400+ (Barton), and I'm not even sure if your motherboard supports it because it seems to be downclocking an Athlon XP to 1.1Ghz.

Your motherboard BIOS could be old enough not to support drives bigger than 32Mb.

You need a new motherboard if you want a dual core processor.

Karz is right; your motherboard is Socket A; not worth upgrading.
You should get a motherboard with the latest processor socket from either AMD or Intel. Intel has the fastest processors right now, but that might not be true in 6 or 8 months.
The most current AMD processor socket is AM2, and the most current Intel Socket is 775.
Here are some socket AM2 motherboards:

And Socket 775:

There are a million different things to consider when purchasing a motherboard, such as the number of PCI expansion slots, maximum number of SATA devices supported (most likely hard drives and optical drives -- if it supports 4, then one possible configuration might be 3 hard drives and one DVD/CD burner).
Two things one of these new motherboards is not likely to have: an IDE channel, and an AGP slot. That means you probably won't be able to use your Radeon 9200 video card, and you may have to get a new optical drive. You'll almost definitely need to replace any/all of your hard drives from your Socket A PC as well.
Here is a recommendation of the best video cards for various budget amounts:

And here's a look at some SATA hard drives. I recommend a small[ish] one to run your operating system one, and a big one for everything else.

If you get an OEM hard drive, you'll need an SATA cable.

Your processor is an 8/10 AMD (progressed Micro-contraptions) processors are value-effective and that they use much less battery skill than Intel. Intel processors on the different hand, p.c.. a much better punch and have a marginally greater effective FSB (front edge Bus) than AMD. AMD Turion sixty 4 X2 TL-50 is akin to the Intel middle 2 Duo E4000 (approximate) My opinion: in case you go with max battery existence, bypass with AMD; in case you go with skill, bypass with Intel

When you remove the processor of your motherboard you will see a socket number. Now when you bay a processor it also will reference that socket number. If the two do not match the chip will not fit. whit the hard drive you only get about 3 kinds iDE, SATA, SCASY you will have a Ide it is the standard for that type of PC.

You have a motherboard running the 939 socket, which means you can pick from any of the processors on this page and it will work in your computer (and they're all dual core): http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2+50001028+40000343+1051707439+1050717007&name=Athlon+64+X2.

Hope this helped.
