I have an older computer that the power supply went bad on. I'm running an Athlon xp 2.2 gHz, w/ 768 ram, GeForce 5700 LE video card, 3 Western digital HDD's, 1 Sony DVD-RW, powering 2 external USB devices. I had an Atnec SP400 that only lasted me about a year. I am trying to hold off for as long as possible the building of a new computer. Any suggestions?

When I go to load my computer, I can make it to the "Weclome Screen" but when I enter my password it lets me onto my desktop, but I cannot access anything, and my computer automatically logs me off. I am not able to get to my Registry Editor or anything. Anyone know what I can do to solve this problem?

Also, I do not have a Windows XP Reboot CD. I do however have the System Recovery CD's that came with my computer. I have a Sony VAIO.

I would like to solve this problem, without having to reinstall my harddrive. I believe it is possible from the research i've done online about this, but clarification is always a plus. Thanks alot.

My computer has been giving me a Voltage Failure warning on startup. I have a Dell Precision 650. Boss finally bought me an UPS and the LOW AC voltage warning clicks on and off bout every 5 seconds - even at low sensitivity. Would this low AC voltage have caused the voltage failure in my computer when I didn't have the UPS? The UPS is very annoying (clicking on and off on and off).

Hi let me start off by saying that I have been up for like 2 days straight trying to figure all of this stuff out. & the funny part is, it's not that big of a deal, I'm just more about the research, learning, the hunt, to get that last inch of juice outta something. Ok Ive waisted enough of your life on that. I am running a Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M motherboard with a amd 64 3000+, and if you haven't guessed by now this is an old value board, but still does a decent job considering the chipset its got in it. The weird thing is that I have used several different programs and sandra is reporting this mb as using the k8t800 pro chipset, which I know is obviously a mistake, since the HT is @800. Anyways this got me thinking about something though...This boards big brother the revision 1 model looks nearly identical in configuration/components/chipset, BUT comes with a couple nice voltage tweaks, that my bios doesn't have. (Yes I have been to hell and back and its confirmed its not something

When I say "on" I mean NOT hibernation and NOT standy-by. Also, it's a Dell PC about 8 years old. That's the first part of my question. The second part is this: Would it draw more electricity to turn the computer on and off twice per day than to just leave it running? Thanks!

Is it possible the computer could be overheating due to the power supply ?

I turn it on and it boots to winxp but shut off.I turn it back on and i get an alert about it overheating and it had to be turned off.

It's a dell p4..It has everything it was built with but the power supply was switched before the overheating (could it be this psu?).
btw, this computer has been sitting in a room and hasn't been used for a while.
