The latest Intel processor is the Core 2 which comes as either dual core (Core 2 Duo) or in quad core formats (Core 2 Extreme and the Core 2 Quad). These are much faster that the P4's for modern programs that can take advantage of the multiple processors. However, some older programs run slower on these because they only use one core which is slower than a P4. Few modern programs are written to take advantage of the Quad core models at the moment. Video editing software and games will be the first to effectively use all four cores because of their high demand for CPU power.

Intel Dual core processors are used after P4. It's a lot faster and a lot better. U can even overclock them for a while just like AMD processors. But they are lot better than AMD processors. Processor speeds have more or less reached as fast as they can go so you're stuck with the P4 what manufactures are doing now to get more performance is make multi core processors which is basically like having more than on processor on one chip dual core are common these days with quad core just around the corner

Both Intel and AMD have had many leaps after the Pentium 4.
Intel gave birth to several processors such as
*Pentium 4 with HT Technology
*Intel Xeon
*Intel Centrino
*Pentium D
*Intel Centrino Duo
*Intel Core 2 Duo
*Intel Xeon Duo
and last and the latest "Intel Core 2 Extreme"
AMD gave rise to AMD 64 with dual core technology.

Apart from Intel Pentium 4 we can use AMD Athalon processors but it is well suited for US climate.Now Core 2 duo is the best processor among all the processors.Intel HT is also good.

Intel P4 consist from 2.4 Ghz to 3.4 ht Ghz but now a days many types of proccesor like Dual core, core to duo, quad core etc,. are released which comprise High speed efficiency......

well the P4 line was ended and the pentium D was after the P4 but if you want to re-encode stuff like home videos or movies AMD is the way to go because of the fpu on the chip
