When I move things to trash (and empty the trash) it deletes, but the amount of free spaces stays the same. I cant seem to free up space by deleting files.

I am going with a low budget, but still good gaming computer and am not sure what graphics card to pick up for $80 or less.
This project of mine consists of the following:
-2.4 ghz AMD Athlon 64 3800+
-1 gb DDR2 667
-haven't pick out a case yet and still looking at the video card as you can tell.
-and I have the rest of the other little necessites taken care of later.

I saw a ATI radeon 9550 256 mb, and some other geoforce 256 mb ones for $80 or less, but am still not sure. Most likely going for some 256 mb card though.. Suggestions and reasoning please.,

My computer is 3 years old. I put the DVD burner in it myself over two years ago. Now it don't work. The computer is slow. I will like to buy a new new one but don't know if it would be better to upgrade. And would I be able to sell my PC or trade it in for a small discount on the new one?

My computer is a Packard Bell iMedia P806, it is around 4-5 years old. I am looking to update the memory, sound card and video card and need to know what kind of slots my computer has. And what kind of cards can be used with the mother board.
I can't find any info on this computer, tried the Packard Bell site but they only have the new comps. I also tried google but it came up with nothing. If you know of any comp info sites, or one that this comp is on please let me know!!

Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a new PC to run Autocad and office. I was looking at a Pentium 4 3Ghz with 2GB RAM, and I've been given the option to upgrade to 2 x 3.2Ghz for £8.99.

Whats the difference? Does that make it a 6.4?
Is there any benefit to spending a bit more and getting the Athlon 64 equipped model?

S'cuse my IT ignorance, I'm an engineer, not an IT technician!
Thanks in advance!

I recently bought a brand new intel pentium as i dropped my athalon 27000 and the repair cost was quite high.I kept the athalon box but had the computer shop install my 160 gig hard drive into the new pentium as a secondry drive. All was well until yesterday morning when i started up the computer and it started to do a few funny things at start up and i thought --this looks like my old computer??
I then noticed that a lot of the icons on my desktop were from the other computer.I initialy thought that all of the programs etc had somehow jumped over from the old drive wich is --d--into my main --c -drive.
But my wife opened up a new word doc and typed a few words and named the doc then saved it.Then she went to c drive and searched for it and discovered that it had saved it to d instead.--So we now think that the drives have somehow swapped places??-Can i reverse this so that c is the default?~~is this the problem?? or is it something else.~~theres no viruses how do i fix this??

general apps beyond gaming-music/video editing. cluster computers are networked.....I wonder if you can make a direct conection between multiple mobos(retrofit chipset, bios) and combine their resourses/power into one big computer that would work with apps just like any ordinary pc. the advantige in my mind is you could use pc parts that aren't good for much anymore and make them into a powerful computer for less money than a new high-end pc.

I recently decided to fix my Dell Dimension 4550 (p4 2.0GHz, !GB SDRAM 266MHz) which crashed about a year ago. First I put in a new hard drive (Maxtor 180) then I reinstalled XP. Once I saw the computer still worked I decided to upgrade it. I swapped out the 250W PSU with an Extreme Power 430W. Then I replaced the (broken) CD drive with a Mad Dog DVD burner. Then I put in a new soundcard (COMP USA cheapie). Everything was up and running and working fine. The next day I decided to teach myself how to set up a network and spent a few hours trying to get it to work. During those hours I probably restarted the computer ten times without any problems. Then I restarted it and got the "disc read error has occurred Press CTRL ALT DEL to restart" message. I initially thought my hard drive crashed again but I swapped it into an external case and attached it to my primary computer--and it worked fine. Now I simply have no idea what to do? Any suggestions?

I have a computer that I set "make this folder private" Some how after about two years later, my motherboard is bad. So, I set my hard drive to slave, connect to the other XP system and try to get my information out from my document. I cannot open it. The folder still protected. Then I try to set it on master hoping I can boot and logon, but my XP keep on rebooting. Any idea to get the information?
