Although it could be caused by various issues, check that your computer is not infiltrated with malware, adware, or other programs that have been unintentionally loaded.

Many times so many of these programs will be loaded that they bog down your machine, even interfering with each other.

Use a reliable Adware and Virus checking program to remove the programs.

If this is not the cause, then I would check for a program or feature that is trying to start, but cannot do so properly because of missing hardware or other software. For example, a network driver attempting to connect to a network on a machine that is standalone will slow down system startup.

Probably due to the fact that your computer is running a lot of processes that are just running in the background. First of all, open the task manager (on XP ctrl alt delete) then go to performance. look at the 'PF usage' if it is higher than your PC's RAM then to put it bluntly, you need more. But for a quick solution got to processes in task manager and end anything that is running but doesn't need to be (eg. ITunes). Also remove any programs that you don't need or don't use from the computer. Hope this helps.

Make sure that when the computer is starting up, it is not starting other programs up at the same time. This usually causes a slower start-up because the computer is having to process way too many starting requests... Hope that helped

computer being slow, there are many reasons for it. firstly, see if it is infected by viruses. if u feel so, get a good antivirus and scan it completely.
then see if you see any signs of spyware or ad ware or malware, these signs can be seen if u see any flashing screens or any flashing banner indicating " your computer is Infected" or "adult popups" etc. then get a good anti spyware downloaded and scan the computer.
empty the following folders in your C Drive.
C:\windows\temp
C:\windows\temporary internet Files
C:\windows\Cookies
and see the change.
uninstall all the unwanted programs from your Control panel
Add / remove programs.

Try to delete some files on it. You may have too many files stored on it.
