Your Processor is knackered by the sound of it.
Though it could be the display driver. This is also a major problem as on most dell machines this is integrated into the motherboard.

Blue screen of death is when the hard disc has corrupted. The drive is probably OK but some part of a program is damaged ... usually the start-up section. Your possibilities:
1. Try rebooting into Safe Mode .... press F8 on startup and select option for safe mode. If you are using XP then access the Restore Option and follow the selections to restart at an 'old date'.
2. If using 98 or 98SE then run the virus protection in safe mode.
3. If you have a start-up boot disc or a disc included with your PC for use when reinstalling after problems, then use it. Put disc into CD drive, switch off and switch on .... disc should boot up. You will probably get a screen of 'tools'. With careful selection of a tool you might overcome the 'blue screen' issue.
4. If all fails then you will need to reformat the hard disc and reinstall the XP program. For XP the format is not the same as for 98 or 98SE. You will need to change the boot option for start-up by pressing F2. On the bios screen find and change the startup option to begin with CD drive. Save any changes.
Switch off. Put XP disc into your CD drive. Disc should boot and give you the option to reinstall XP or/and format the drive. Reinstallation normally reformats the drive so select to 'continue' and a new XP will copy to your hard disc. Obviously you will loose all your previous files/programs.
NB .. you will need a genuine XP disc with registration code/number. A disc without code/registration will not work.

sounds like a hardware problem you need to boot in safe mode
when you turn on your machine press the F8 key repeatedly the you'll see a menu option, select the safe mode option, or even try the last known good configuration, if this doesnt work try reseating the ram chips inside the machine

Press F8 while you are booting. Go to SAFE MODE. Now, you should go to a command prompt and type in MSCONFIG. When MSCONFIG loads, go to the STARTUP tab and uncheck all of your startup items.
Reboot and if you are back in, you can start going from SAFE MODE to regular boot, Putting the startup programs back until one of 'em crashes your boot. Go back to SAFE MODE and uncheck that one, and reboot.
From now on it is a process of elimination. Once you find the bad one, uninstall it and reinstall it.
Good luck.
