When I put my computer on standby, it switches off like normal, and then when I switch it back on it asks for my password and starts immediately.
Is it safe to leave my computer on standby for long periods at a time or is it better to switch it off fully?

Thanks for help.

I'm looking into getting a mainboard bundle ie:Mainboard,Processor,Gfx Card & Ram. Will the software i already have be compatible with with the 64Bit processor, like my XP disk? Also is there anything i should be aware of when switching to 64Bit?

Thanks in advance

My basement is a computer graveyard of older slower systems. Some work and I had thought of passing them on or selling them cheap to a school or hobbiest. My concern is the personal information on the hard drives. I can F disk the drive, but it is my understanding that this does not necessarily destroy the information on those drives. I'm aware of software that wipes or sterilizes drives, but am uncertain if newer software will run on older machines? Is it possible to connect a laptop to the old CPU and do the operation from the laptop? And will someone be able to load an OS to the wiped drive or will formatting software be necessary? Short of pulling the drive and giving the mindless thing away, what is the best solution to securing the drive and yet remain functional?

I want to build a new computer but I can't decide what would be a good cpu and mobo with a 8800 gts and a gig of ram. I can't find a single computer with a 320 mb 8800 gts in it to use as a template. I want a budget gaming computer basically. Looking for a mobo and cpu that won't make the video data bottleneck.

A humming noise is coming through my pc speakers. It just started doing this 3 or 4 days ago. I have not moved anything. Everything is in the same place as it has been for nearly 2 yrs. now. I have my pc connected to my surround sound, and the noise is coming through there as well when I have my receiver set to my computer. Any suggestions?

768 MB of ddr 333 RAM,

and lets hypothetically say it does still have the OS (windows XP)

I connect my iPod to my Dell PC and I go to my computer and open the file but after a few seconds, the damn computer doesn't read my iPod anymore!!! I hoped there is only something wrong with the USB cord because I'm worried that the same thing will happen to future devices I hook up.

PLEASE HELP!

THANX

I have (or will have, soon) a computer case with 2 rear 120 mm fans and one front 120 mm fan. Should the front one suck air and the back 2 blow air out, or the back to suck air and the front blow air out? Thanks. (Here's the link if you want a visual. It's a case from newegg.) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811233004
