I didn't list the OS because I was hopign to avoid all the crappy answers about Vista becasue I have had no problems until now. Bought system brand new preinstalled an it's been fine! So please none of that. Everything is up to date, I've only had it a few weeks.

Which Operating System are you using? More information is needed to answer these questions. Are you up to date on all your updates from Microsoft?
The only I/O device error I can think of is your hard drive, floppy and/or cd/dvd drives. You could try to look in the device manager and see if there are any errors with your hardware.
You could start by running a check disk to fix any corrupted sectors and system files on your hard drive (make sure to check fix all errors automatically and scan and recover bad sectors)
Make sure the service "system restore" is in automatc and running.
Other than that I can't help any further without more info. Good Luck!
