Chances are that your power supply is dead. It happens and mine died some months ago. You can confirm that as below:

Most power supplies leave a small low current 3v on even when the computer is turned off. That allows it to keep the 3v lithium ion backup battery (for date, bios) to be charged. Some systems also have a small led which is always on, not necessarily visible from outside. So if you find the round quarter sized lithium ion battery, and it is dead, you can be pretty sure the power supply isn't charging it.

A power supply is pretty cheap. Your old computer probably has one at about 200 watts. You can get a new one today for $20-35 with about 300 watts. Tigerdirect.com is a pretty good way to go or your local CompUSA or Bestbuy.

If it is more complex than the power supply, it is probably not worth fixing. Save the hard disk as a second drive for your next computer and it would have all your data on it. Good luck.

Most likley your computers motherboard cmos battery has expired...that is a reason computers die....if by chance that is it...open the puter up and there will be a round battery on the board...take it out and replace it..then upon boot up you will need to go into the bios and choose load defaults. Also, it could be your power supply went south...you can first try the cmos battery since they are not expensive...if that doesn't get her running then try a differant power supply. Any computer store can help there in letting you know which one to buy...I am guessing it is going to be just a regular atx power supply....the more watts offered the more you can hardware you can have!

If you don't hear the fan or see any lights on the computer, you need a new power supply. If the fans and lights come one but the screen doesn't, you may need a new monitor.

your power supply may be dead even though those are usually pretty hardy. The computer is old so the motherboard may have just died... you should consider getting a new computer or even a slightly used one for like $200.

Try this.

Unplug the computer and wait 30 seconds then
plug it back in.

Make sure the Breaker didn't Trip. Plug in something
else to test it.

I probably would not fix a 9 year old computer unless there was a compelling reason. A new computer would be cheaper than trying to upgrade that one.

First thought, buy a new computer.

Second thought replace power supply.

Third thought, first thought was better.

If there is info on the hard drive that you need, remove the drive and
put it i new machine as a second drive (set jumpers to slave)

If it is dead, your power supply must be shot.
