Nothing fancy--just out of spare parts lying around. Don't know too much about the specs, but I found a mainboard. It is a MB-8500TAC-A Ver.4--Is this a good mainboard? Or can I do much, much better if I look around? I haven't even laid out any plans yet. And I have no idea what the mainboard assets and liabilities even are. Any help please?

i need a nice computer, it must be able to play counterstrike 1.6 and condition zero, you can check the system requirements for those on steampowered.com, also, it needs to be under $400 USD, also, it should be able to store alot of music, and preferably from amazon.com or pricegrabber.com, but NOT EBAY!!!!

Our dell is broken. The CPU is clogged and the motherboard is damaged. It keeps shutting off saying that it is "due to a thermal event". Please explain the cost difference between the two options considering these following things:
-if we buy a new computer we would have to pay to have someone set up the networking and we would have to purchase anti-virus softwares.
- we also have no idea how much it costs to replace hardware because we are not sure to what extent the hardware needs to be replaced?

Could someone give us a minimum and maximum expected cost quote?

I can't decide what to do. I already have a windows XP laptop that works, but I also want a desktop. So I have about $600 right now, should I get another windows, which of course would be better than my laptop, or should I wait until I have enough for a Mac. Advice?

It gives an obscure Microsoft message as a url link. When I go there, it says that one of the drivers is in conflict with MS Windows (XP). The problem is that of course there are many drivers. Is there a short cut to determine which driver is causing the problem ?
Thanks in advance.

Going to be building a PC using E6300, Core 2 Duo 1.86 GHz (1066 FSB) with Vista Premium (32 bit).

I can't afford 4 GB at 800 MHz RAM, so what's better:

4 GB at 533 MHz
or
2 GB at 800 MHz

I want Vista running smoothly and the ability to do some decent multi-tasking and average gaming. I also want this system to last 4-5 years, and since Vista is recommending 2 GB, I'm afraid it won't be enough in 4-5 years...? But...I don't plan on doing really heavy video editing, etc.....
