While Alienware and the such like produce outstanding computers for video editing, the best computers are often built by individuals with the technological know how.
Alienware, Falcon Northwest V, are all outstanding machines for video editing. However, it is my opinion that these systems do not address the needs of the individual and are excessive in the technology used. You will often find that the user will hardly ever realize the power of these machines because the intended use was not only met but exceeded. Thus, you paid for technology you will never use.
Imagine your driving a Ferrari to work daily. Now, imagine the others using a Hondai excel and getting there the same time and at a lesser cost. You of course, have to pay the car note and the insurance bill for that luxury and you can never realize the power of the machine because the speed limit have curbed your desire to whip those horses under the hood into full gallop.
However, if you have someone customize your computer for the intended use, you will utilized every dollar you invested and not throw money away on gimicks you will boast of having but never use.

Get a customized system.

Digital Juice just posted a video describing a great editing computer. Here is their blurb about the video..."Digital media production requires a little more performance than your typical e-mail and office machine. In this segment, Eric examines the specs of a competent editing box as of early 2007."

goto digitaljuice.com. The video is posted on their home page. Tech Know with Eric Franks titled Under the Hood. Digital juice does not sell computers but this video will provide the specs needed for a great editing box. It will be best to get your computer custom built. Look into http://www.abs.com/app/wstation_compare.asp to get an online custom quote.

btw, just in case you're wondering i am not affiliated with Digital Juice or ABS computers in any way. I am just a satisfied customer.

I trust Dell and Micron. As long as the system is balanced for its own parts, i.e. the video card isn't too much stronger or weaker than the processor can give, most gaming systems will do.
I use a Dell xps 2010for editing and it is awesome.
