Are Dell computers any good? Or would it better to get someone to build one for me? I plan to play World of Warcraft on it, so Im wondering if I should buy the XPS 410 or would a standard Dell do allright? I'll also use it for basic things like emailing, web browsing, etc.

I was able to play World of Warcraft on an old Dell Dimension 3000, so I can tell you right away that you will not need an ultra high-end gaming machine to run that game. You might want to make sure you have a decent video card (I had a 256MB ATi Radeon 9150) though and maybe a gigabyte or more of RAM (which is common today anyway).

In my experience, Dell is pretty good. They have a poor reputation for customer service, but in my experience it wasn't so bad and as far as product goes, they're great multi-purpose machines. The only that I did not like is having to constantly deal with them over the phone for anything I wanted from them.

As far as an alternative, should you chose o not go with Dell, I'd personally suggest Gateway. I have a Gateway Media Center desktop at the moment and I absolutely LOVE it.

I've had 4 Dell computers in 6 years that have never given me any problems. I have recommended Dell to everyone and they too have never had any problems as far as the manufacturer is concerned. It all depends on how you use the machine, and what you yourself do to it. Yes, i would recommend an XPS 410 for playing world of warcraft because that game is not very demanding, but if you're into more serious gaming, look for an XPS 600, which is the older model, but will go a lot farther with your dollar for a top notch gaming rig. If you're gaming, you want a dedicated graphics card. Anything you buy nowadays that comes with one will be able to play world of warcraft.

Dell computers aren't that bad. If you don't mind talking to someone over the phone for supports (like you would do that anyways), but when if comes to getting your computer fixed for warranty. Most retail stores offer the in-store manufacture warranty service. Well with Dell you can build your PC too. What i would say it get a Athlon processor, or Intel Core 2 Duo. With either 1-2GB of memory. Many of the computers come w/ either now a 250 - 300 GB Hard drive. ... Honeslty what i would worry about it the video card, the processor, and memory. You don't want to be upgrading within' 1 year. Do you need a new monitor, and etc?? If you do i would go w/ a package deal that the retail stores offer. Ex: Tower, Monitor, And printer. .... It is cheaper to purchase a bundle then to purchase a tower.

If you hven't said that you were playing World of Warcraft. then i would say don't spend a lot on a computer b/c you don't need alot. Don't go with a computer with windows vista, because of the compatability with the game, and the opertaing system...

GOOD LUCK!!!

I hope you people know Dell is not the only computer company. Dell suck. Get a voodoo if you have the money. They are really good for gaming. In fact they are built for gaming and are way better than Dell. Or you can just build your own.

Dells are ok, but i heard they had cheap hardware. I have an HP pavilion dv2000 notebook, and i havent had any problems with it. And i have a friend with an XP Media Center edition HP desktop, dunno the model but its fast and is perfect for gaming, he didnt pay alot for it either, atleast not alot for a decent gaming computer.

just make sure you have a good graphics card and as much RAM as you can afford. Your processor will probably be very good if you stick with these two things.
