i have a pentium d 3 ghz running on a mach speed motherboard
any idea what software i should use to everclock it through windows?

Unless you have a really good heatsink, don't overclock it. Intel chips are usually marketed for the speed at which they passed a stability test. However, to really answer the question, you should do a hardware overclock for better reliability. And make sure your cooling is godlike...

At first, you should tell more detail about motherboard model number. then we can understand that the motherboard support powerful overclock function.
clockgen or overclock cpu from google.
I think you can overclock from 3.00ghz to 3.2, 3.4ghz or higher if you got good extreme overclocking motherboard.
Check the temp before overclock.
cpu temp should not reach over 55c is fine when full load.
