FAT32 and NTFS are both formatting schemes for hard drives. FAT32 is older, and is used mostly on win9x systems. The FAT stands for "file allocation table" and has to do with how much data can be stored on each sector of a drive. FAT32 was designed for smaller hard drives. Starting with Windows NT (or maybe windows 2000) NTFS (New Technology File System) became available. It can be used with all hard drives loaded with any modern version of windows (XP, NT, 2K, Vista). It is more efficient than FAT, and allows much larger partitions. If you are using XP or Vista, use NTFS.

Everything. FAT is the old way of storing files on a drive, It's been around since the days of good ol' MS-DOS. NTFS, meanwhile, is a lot newer, provides for better file security, and is capable of supporting large capacity disks ( over 30 gigs ). FAT32 nowadays is only used for thumb drives, because it is more efficient with regards to space. But only because thumb drives are under 30 gigs. Basically: FAT32<30 gigs, and NTFS> 30 gigs. NTFS was last used in Windows ME, or, more commonly, in Windows 98.

FAT (FAT16 and FAT32) and NTFS are two methods for storing data on a hard drive. The hard drive has to either be formatted using one or the other, or can be converted from one to the other (usually FAT to NTFS) using a system tool
NTFS is a high-performance and self-healing file system proprietary to Windows XP 2000 NT, which supports file-level security, compression and auditing. It also supports large volumes and powerful storage solution such as RAID.
The most important new feature of NTFS is the ability to encrypt files and folders to protect your sensitive data

quick answers that come to my mind:
1.ntfs lets you use larger drives without making multiple partitions, the cut off is in the 40 gig vicinity on fat 32.
2. ntfs lets you create greater than 2 gig files, (if you do video this will be an issue)
3. ntfs gives you options of security permisions on files.
So why fat 32... well some older programs will not run the way they should on ntfs but this is a rareity.

FAT32 and NTFS is a type of format you do when u are re-installing ur operating system.
FAT32 files were widely used in Win98's time...
now we all use NTFS format.
Do NOT CHOOSE FAT32 type for formatting ur hard drive.
Always NTFS

New technologies report equipment facilitates more suitable confusing drives for use. report Allocation table 32 in effortless words facilitates a lot smaller confusing drives. fat 32 is older and a lot less secure than NTFS(equipped in allowance for permissions and encryption) fat 32 makes use of a small report Allocation table(the position all the info are absolutely placed) and NTFS makes use of an excellent higher draw close report table and would link issues diverse and carry way huger extra info. no longer too technical am I? call them a Map of your confusing rigidity. Win XP and Vista can study both. leap drives of one million-4 GB are tremendous for fat 32 yet a 250 GB exterior rigidity would fantastically a lot must be NTFS. 3.5 inch floppy is in fat 16 an excellent older equipment wish this helps some AAS computer Networking
