I use a very simple but never failed program called DivxToDvD

It will convert .AVIs to DVD as well as other format tranlations.

Check it out.

You can convert it to a dvd, a svcd, or a vcd. Most dvd players now will play dvd or svcd. If you are downloading avi files and want to watch them on your television I suggest buying a dvd player that plays divx. I have had a couple, and they play damn near anything you put in em. Walmart has one for about $60. If you would rather tie you computer up for hours transcoding video, then go do doom9.net and there you'll find guides on how to make dvd's and svcd's along with everything you need to do it on the download page. Don't get me wrong, making your own dvd's is cool, I do it all the time, but if you just want to watch a movie you downloaded the buy the dvd player with divx support. Youll save time, and money because you can burn most movies to a cdr as a data disk.

There are 2 ways to play the files on the DVD player. The first is by hooking up Video Cords from your computer to the DVD player. The other is to download the files to a DVD. In order to do the DVD you must first have a DVD burner installed in your computer disc drive. Download the files onto the CD DVD by using a program that either came with the computer or by downloading free trials off the internet. Then you can play the burnt DVD on your DVD player.

When you have sorted out how to do it, make sure you buy good quality DVD blanks or you will get very frustrated.
