It's not the Intel or AMD CPU that really makes the difference. It's the Motherboard and support chips. I've seen great CPUs slowed down by cheap motherboards. So look for the full system setup and recommendations for the specific GAME that you want to play and WIN at. You see, many benchmark programs offer a different answer.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

Been building systems for a long time and switched to AMD years ago. I havent seen an AMD that couldnt perform as good or better than an Intel yet! Not one failure in ANY AMD I have ever used! I switched because of price and havent gone back! Gaming is more dependant on the video card and the amount of ram more than anything!

AMD i was a full time gamer at one point and i chose AMD because of the way it handles games for my bench mark i used HALO for PC
processor 1 P4 1.8 256 mb of ram 60 gig HD ran HALO slow with a geforce fx5500
processor 2 AMD Athlon 3200 barton 2.2 Ghz 256 MB ram geforce fx 5500 ran much smother
processor 3 AMD Athlon 64 3000 1.8 512 mb ram ran flawlessly some stagering but verry little same video card
i have to say all my AMD machines kick intels but except for the dual core only because i dont have an X2 64 bit processor

Intel of course~ :D
The Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme is the fastest CPU in the market (consumer-wise). Intel has proven their worthiness by having Apple to dump their G5 processors for an Intel Core processor.
AMD is said to be faster but they got that by overclocking which Intel can do too if they wanted to but overclocking shorten you processor's life line. Longer gaming period is better than short.
