If I understand you correctly u have a new 2GB memory stick and want to replace the current memory you have in your computer (1 GB) with the 2 GB stick. Can your computer hold 3 GB ram? If so then leave the 1 GB stick in and just add the 2 GB stick. If you are unsure of how much memory your computer can hold go to Crucial and install there utility, it will scan your computer and tell you how much memory you have installed and how much memory your computer can hold.

open your box up, make sure it is unpluged from the mains.

open the left hand side and look for the memory sockets. on each end there is a white clip, press it down and the mem stick will pop up take it out with your tip of fingers and thumb.. place it in the next slot, (2) and place your new stick in slot (1) that way you'll have 3 Gig of memory.

if you have two 512meg sticks in then remove both sticks, they will not mix,

before you replace the case test the system to make sure it is working if it is then replace the case cover

What do you mean by memory card? If your talking about RAM, and you're sure the "module" is compatible, you can swap them, but be careful about static. I suggest you go to office or electronic store and by the anti-static wrist strap for a couple bucks. Follow the instructions in the package. (make sure you're grounded for 15 seconds). Ordinarily, I just grab the chassis, because that is the common ground. But when I mess with RAM I almost always wear the strap. A question: will this upgrade void your warranty?

Inside your case, you will see tabs on either side of your module (first you will probably have to move cables out of your way maybe unplug: remember where they go!) push outward on these and the module comes out. To put the other in, push it in and you will see the tabs go back inward, make sure they're locked.

if you are talking about ram the n our computer might have more than one slot and you should put it the other slot. if not turn off your computer and pull out the power cable from the back of the computer(you don't want to get shocked) then there should be two levers on the side of the stick that is on you computer. push those down then pull out the 1 gb stick and switch it with the 2gb stick and push the levers back down locking hte stick in place.

You could shut the pc down, uninstall the 1 gig stick, move the 2 gig stick to slot 1. reboot. If your PC is recognizing 3 gigs at boot tho, why would you want to? More ram is better!
