Hardware - December 2006

Had a virus that ate a krnl, reinstalled fine...but now I have barely enough space on my harddrive to defrag, because all of my stuff is still here just deleted...defrag, adaware, virusscan all find files I cannot locate to delete completely. I need to wipe my harddrive clean like it just came from dell, so I can reinstall again, ty.

I have a laptop that was given to me from work. I am not the admin for Windows 2000 Pro. I loaded Windows XP on my D drive. Thus, I now have the option to boot up in Windows 2000 (on my C drive) or XP. However, I have no use for Windows 2000 and wish to remove it, but have no idea how.

Please help.

My computer is less than a year old, and the disc drive hasn't been used that much. Lately, it has been reading CDs, but not DVDs (blank or otherwise) it states that the drive is empty when it is a DVD format disc in there. I have tried reinstalling the original software , and updating the software with updates off of the internet, but it's still not reading? Anything else I should try before I pay an arm and a leg to have it sent to Timbuctu for repairs? Normally, I would assume that the disc drive has somehow been disconnected, but for the fact that it reads CDs fine...?

I got an e-mail from them telling me I could litterally download an extra tv. on my laptop for$ 49.95, no other charges ever to get satellite service for over 300 stations all over the world.
Has anyone done this? And are you satisfied ? Or is it some kind of hoax?

yes what i was wanting to do was this ,clear everything so its was back to its original state when first baught ok ...i swiched on pc to boot it up .i put in my recovery cd i got with the pc booted it up and it asked me do you wish to boot from cd ..i hit the space bar...after a few min it came with blue screen saying ( windows xp home edition setup ) there is 3 options on the screen those being ..
1) to setup windows xp now ,press enter
2) to repair a windows xp instalation using recovery console ,press r.
3) to quit setup without instaling windows xp, press f 3
i clicked option 1 to setup windows xp now press enter
after that it brings up an licence agreement so i have to click f8 to continue so i done that

then it brings up another page with the drives on it .
drive c
drive d
drive e

silly me i clicked on drive d and e and deleted both drives ...and after doing that i reinstaled windows xp on drive cafter everything was done the pc booted up but no drives d or e

Hello, im a student and need a laptop for school with powerpoint, word, excel, etc. I also want wifi, a dvd burner and dvd player but I need help! OK question 1
1) Has anyone ever baught computers off ebay? I was thinking about it, are there questions I should ask buyers before I bid?
2) Whats the max price I should pay vs Minimum because I need one near 200-500.
3) What is a good brand that will last long?
4) I absolutely HATE those keyboards that are so thin. I was testing some out today and nothing made sense on what I was typing. I need a kepboard thats kinda deep so I can type profeciently.
Any advice?

Ok so i was trying to load a disk on to my computer, but nothing happened. i try to manually load but it sais a disk drive doesnt exist, but ive had it for a year or two. i click on my computer but the D drive isnt listed, it goes A,C, skips D, and so on. What can i do to make my computer reconize my D drive??

I have four slots in my computer that stuff can be slipped into. Two of them are the same and 2 are both weird. I also have a weird one that is long what is that?
Then I have This LITTLE TINY one which is VERY small what is it...what can it hold?
