what is the purpose or function for the express card slot on my laptop..?

not much out there, at the moment. it's suppose to replace pcmcia cards but the industry has not caught up. mostly because they didn't do a good job of marketing the card slot and it's really not needed much these days with all of the laptops having pretty much everything built-in

There are cards that plug into it that do various things. You could get a bluetooth card, or a broadband wireless card (wireless internet through a cell phone provider), etc.
