it stops and you loose data that was not saved

It will hard crash, just like pulling the plug on a desktop box. Not a wise idea. A hard crash can cause damage to the file system or result in data loss. The chances aren't all that great of it happening, but is IS possible. Windows is much more forgiving of a hard crash than Linux is.

It's basically the same as holding the power button down. It's not good for the computer but most times wont cause damage. However, if you have any information that hasn't been saved it will be lost.

If you are plugged in - nothing if the laptop is battery only it is a hard reboot and although not "good" for your laptop it will cause little harm.

if the power cable is in then it keeps running, if not it just shuts off.

my dell has a bad power socket so ive been having to take the battery out a lot
