Looking to upgrade a couple of computers in the office which are running 3ds Max, but budget is severely limited. SO which is more important? RAM or processor speed?

That's going to cause a lot of headaches, right? Does this include desktops and laptops? What's going on?

I am a video editor and am having some trouble storing the huge video files that I accumulate.

I have an 80GB harddrive, and a 250GB harddrive, both clogged with these huge (around 20GB) video files I use for editing.

My computer can handle one project at a time, which can amount to around 150GB of raw video, but storage is getting out of hand.

And I can't just delete these files, because sometimes the director comes back and wanted me to re-edit parts, which requires the raw video.

I already researched tape storage...but that is way too expensive (around $900 is the cheapest one that would fit my needs).

I would buy more harddrives...but I'm always scared they will crash, so what I want is a safe way to store these huge files without degrading the quality and without spending huge amounts of money. I have no money...so I would like to keep it under $500.

Any help?

I have a 3.5 external hard drive and would like to be able to use it when there are no power outlets around (no I won't get a 2.5 drive because there isn't enough drive space).

Or better yet, is there a USB cable that can connect directly to the power input on the hard drive?

I want to build a budget computer under $300 (without monitor). My only requirements are that it should have a DVD burner and be able to play DVDs and DivX movies with ease.

I have built a few computers before, so feel free to hit me with the technical jargon.

I have a Dimension 4600 and the fan is very noisy. I'm running a P4 3.06 Ghz. I know I need a fan (the processor was built for speed and HEAT!), but I'm trying to get a more silent one. Any ideas?

I'm a student, and have been planning to purchase a new lap top. And that's where the problem pops-up:)

I've never bought a lap top before, and have no idea which brand should I take. As for the OS, it's probably going to be Windows, though I've never worked on Mac, or Linux.

I don't care much if the brand is well known or not, but I have a couple of conditions, such as:

1. speed of processor(not less then 1.6 GHz), and as for processors themselves, I'm not that familiar with that which one is better, so you might help me here too.

2. Pretty good graphics;

3. HDD(not less then 60GB), Ram(>512MB),

4. This would be pretty important, and that's the internet (speed)

Mostly, I would be using it for working on and storing a looot of my photos, videos, a lot of music, and games. At least 3 usb ports, and since I'm a student, should use it for some school tasks too.
Bigger speed of burning CD-s and DVD-s...

Thanks for any suggestions:))))

I've heard the same terms used in the same sentence! We're talking about the same type of computer, right? Even Yahoo! Answers has "laptops & notebooks" in the subcatagories. I've always thought they were the same.
