I'd say you have it. I'd also say it's time to upgrade your PC, get a new motherboard and processor and get one with a PCIe slot and then pick up the 7600GS or 7600GT from nVidia.

But I suppose if you wanted you could pick up an AGP version of the nVidia 6600GT but the performance benefit on such a limited architecture will be limited. I wouldn't say that it's leaps and bounds better than the 9600 you have now. Plus, the bus is limiting you, plus my bet is the specs of the rest of your system aren't that great either. I would say it's time to get a new system.

I think 9600 is pretty top for a 4x agp, next in line would probably be a ati 9800 pro, or an nvidia 5900 or something along the line.

The GeForce 7800GS is an 8x AGP, but it will work in a 4x, all AGP card are backwards compatible one step. Just make sure you have a big enough power supply to support it.
