I have an intel pentium 4 processor at 2.53 GHZ with 512MB DDR SDRAM memory and 80GB of space, which works fine but not the best multitasker, and i got it like 4 years ago when it was top of the line. I want to upgrade to a duo processor, about 1GB of SDRAM, about 120GB of space and a new dvd player/writer because I have important stuff here and I believe it is cheaper than getting one with all of that, am I right?

suggest u do some homework
select the right processor
>> matching chipset & motherboard's will be displayed ...
intel site & other sites like tigerdirect ...
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-detailsInactive.asp?Sku=CP2-DUO-E6400
http://www.intel.com/products/processor/core2duo/index.htm

get a barebones solution, something like below
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2368052

that way u buy only the parts u need
u can use u'r dvd writer in new computer
same with u'r hard drive, either as primary or secondary drive
> data u can still access and use if it's secondary
...then u'll have 2 buy os win xp again
> the new hard drive, a 120 gb or 250 gb will be a sata drive and should make u'r system much faster

>> happy computing !

You will need a new motherboard, and new RAM to fit in the new motherboard, and a new hard drive that has SATA for the new motherboards, the DVD writer and probably a new power supply. So basically all you would be keeping is the case, so I would suggest you go with a new system.

that depends on the motherboard that u have
if u have a motherboard with an intel 975 chipset then u r ready to upgrade
if u don't then u have to change the motherboard
note: motherboards with intel 965 chipset will work with CoreDuo, but it have been lanched with the the CoreDuo processor, so i don't think that u have it

You'd need to replace the motherboard.
