Just using it is not illegal. Using it to obtain/trade copyrghted materials is....at least in the US (other countries have yet to agressively prosecute their citizens). What happens if you are caught would range from a warning to a fine to a prison term or a combination of a fine and prison...just depends how much copyrighted stuff you had/were trading.

From what I know...Limewire is not really an American based site. So to use it is not illegal. Napster is American and has to charge. If you get caught using Limewire...nothing will happen. BUT if you are caught burning and selling cd's from songs you downloaded off of Limewire...then you will get in trouble!

Be Careful using Limewire! You can get bad VIRUSES from Limewire! Make sure you have your firewall and anti-virus security systems on!!!

What they do is the companies send computer worms into the system, and they can figure out how many music files that specific people have downloaded (IP addresses are chosen at random, so it's just luck of the draw if yours is picked).
They usually only prosecute people who have downloaded over 1,000 songs, but really, it's up to them.
I don't know of a way to clean your tracks.

lime wire is legal however know this with any site for loading music.. do not share ur music u load hit options settings in that adn do not share that is a 700 fine per song .. do not share that is the crime but yea they all do who u get it from so. ur taking not sharing .. dont get caught sharing ..

uhm i dont really know. i no some stories of people getting caought and paying fortunes or going to J-A-I-L. bu then again i no they taregt normal ppl from communities and ussually a pick a household per community for example setting. its no fair tho!!!!!
