I have a Dimension 4600 and the fan is very noisy. I'm running a P4 3.06 Ghz. I know I need a fan (the processor was built for speed and HEAT!), but I'm trying to get a more silent one. Any ideas?

i know this is probably not what you want but im going to say it anyway: liquid cooling. works better than anything out there, quieter than anything out there, for twice the price. anyway, its not too difficult to replace the cpu fan, you may have to replace the bracket on your motherboard or similar type thing but basically all you need to do is look on newegg.com or tigerdirect.com and find one compatible with your CPU's socket type (socket478, lga775, etc.) since i dont know your socket type, ill reccomend one for 478 and lga775 (the 2 most common types for intel) for the 478 try this zalmann fan

it is very quiet and runs very well.for the socket lga 775 i would reccomend this one form thermaltake which is basically the same as the last one, just a different color.

The fans are the same throughout the P4 processors. Unless you have a wire that is hitting the fan blade, replacing the fan won't do much good. To get it quieter, it needs to run slower, which will cool less. If you're really serious about noise, you might want to think about using a liquid-cooled system. You can find them at newegg.com...

You may need a new power supply, they have a fan also. Open your PC and check the wires out of the power box and also look for burn marks inside the cabinent. If you find either of these signs, replace with a higher rated power supply.
I use Antec 430 watt Neo HE.

The trick to a Dell XPS with the i7. to maintain it cool you will desire to do away with the case it got here in. maximum in hassle-free terms have a eighty-90mm case fan and in line with possibility one up front. My 9000 heated up consistently. Moved it to a Antic 3 hundred case. 2 120mm followers (case & front) a million 140mm fan contained in the marvelous. Copper tube cooler for the CPU. Temps went from 50C everyday to ( I see 34.5 on the sensor). Threw the "White Elephant" away. I outfitted a i7 930, Asus Sabertooth geared up gadget for my MRS. Rosewill smart case comparable with the followers and cooler. Runs at 32C. followers idle, Asus fan application. 2 are related to the board. extreme working the RPM of them will upward thrust somewhat. Quiet. wish it helps.
