I have the fastest internet in Australia, ADSL2+ modem this is my setup

Upstairs main computer is connected to modem, also connected to the modem is a wireless router which is meant to send signal downstairs.

Downstairs has signal strength 30% but cannot connect to the net.

What is the proper configuration to do this. SHould windows detect IP address or should this be manual. Should my main computer upstairs be involved in the network or can downstairs just pick up the signal

Any help greatly appreciated.

I can get connected to the Internet if I connect my laptop and 2wire together with an ethernet cable or if I use the wireless option with the 2wire. I cannot get connected if I hook the router and modem together and try to access the Linksys wirelessly. I have AT&T DSL. It seems that the Linksys is ignoring the 2wire. Right now I have the wireless option on the 2wire disabled because the signal is so poor coming from it (even from across the room), but the Linksys' signal is excellent.

How do I force the 2wire to be a plain modem so that I can access the Internet off of the Linksys? And yes, I've called both Linksys and AT&T and I've powered down and reset both the 2wire and the Linksys. I've even worked with moving the 2wire closer (not too close; like across the room) to improve the signal as an option. Serious help, short of returning the 2wire to AT&T, is needed.

I hope someone could answer my question.

We have 2 desktop computers that the kids use so much that my husband and I each now have laptops.

Does anyone know of a DSL modem/router that allows 2 desktops to connect via USB and then have the laptops go wireless?

I saw Linksys has one that allows one computer to hook in wired, but could not find any info for allowing 2.

Thank you in advance.

Hi. Should I be worried if the "head" of the network cable (you know, that part of the cable that is inserted in the RJ-45 slot of the computer in order for that computer to connect to the Internet) gets too dusty? I am using a laptop, and the network cable is exposed to very much dust. I am worried that the dust will.. uh, just reach that place where the colored little wires connect to the computer through the RJ-45 slot and send the data to the computer. I am afraid of corrupt downloads, or just files that are not considered corrupted, just that they aren't made out of the exact data of the actual file from the server. Should I worry if it becomes severely dusted? I haven't gotten any corrupt files yet.

1) what does wireless adsl 2/2+ router mean? the 2+ sign especially..
2) most wireless connection speed is either 54mbps or 108mbps,right? does the type of router(wired or wireless) matter in this case?or if i get any router which says downloading speed is 54mbps,i'm going to get 54mbps
3) does the operating system also matter?(i'm using windows xp service pack 2)
4)what is super-g?
5)if it's just for the purpose of using a router at home, wanting to download movies, etc faster, what router reccomendation would be good?
6) which is better? router+modem or router and modem separated?

i know im asking alot of questions, some of them prolly stupid but i really need some help..
thanks alot in advance..peace out..:)

Sorry if this is a silly question, I think I might just need to use a browser or an ftp program. Basically, I keep stumbling accross links to ftp addresses where I'm to download program resources I'm after, but it's not obvious to me how to use them. Do I need to be using an FTP program, am I missing something really obvious. Here's a link to an example page incase you dont know what I mean:

ftp://ftp-linux.cc.gatech.edu/pub/linux/distributions/debian/

Can anyone show me what I'm misunderstanding?

Thanks

I'm interested in downloading dozens of movies a month. Freenet says: Includes up to 40GB per month (after that, $3/GB). How many GB per month am I allowed to download using the Sympatico HSE (charged forty-some dollars a month)? Is it 5GB? Is it unlimited? (Yes of course I use these torrent things)
