i have a linksys router WRT54GS. i want them to access the wifi but only for limited functions or a limited time frame only daily. thank you.

Well there are routers/gateways that have "Hot Spot" controllers built into them but since you have a router you can add DD-WRT firmware and enable the "Chili-Spot" hot spot controller to it. With that you can set times available, ports available etc.
http://dd-wrt.com - You do need to understand routing and hotspots.

Or just get your hands on a router that HAS a hot spot controller built into it. Like

Block ports you don't want them to use.
Useless for Limewire, BitTorrent or other port hopping P2P apps.
Turn off wireless function when their time is up.
You could also swap the firmware for something open source that will give you way more options for control.
