I'm trying to setup a wireless router. My setup is this: Desktop connected directly to the router and a laptop wirelessly. I can view the wireless network from the laptop and login but the internet wont work on the desktop nor the laptop. Any tips on how to get this to work?

Make sure the settings on your router are correct. Check your router's setup page. Your Internet Connection Type should be set to PPPoE..i think.

Do a power cycle.

1. Turn off all the computers.
2. Unplug all the cables to your Modem, and your router.
3. Wait for 45-60 seconds.
4. Plug in the Coaxial Cable (big thick white wire) and plug in the power to the modem.
5. Wait until all the first 4 lights are steady...
6. Plug in the Modem to the Router and plug in the ethernet cables to the computer/router.
7. Turn on the computer.
8. Go to... Internet Explorer and type up 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, (well it depends on the brand of router you have., linksys is 192.168.1.1, and d-link is 192.168.0.1, and log in using the manual's username & password... then, use the wizard to setup your SSID and WEP/WPA encryption code.

You're all set!

Make sure that the network cable to your Cable/DSL modem is connected to the WAN port on the back of the router.

Read The Friendly Manual (RTFM) for your Router and follow the installation instructions and “How To's” to the letter.

Still Stuck?

Call the manufacturer for tech support.

Then, call your ISP, that's what they do.
