Hi,

I work for a company with no resources to buy a Windows Server Licence. I have heard about linux systems that can control AD domains. I am having a lot of trouble managing the network these days without a domain. As I know nothing about linux, I was wondering if anyone could point me to a website, or the name of a distribuition where I can do that, and that is not too complicated (if existent).

Anyone?

Any help is apreciated.

Thanks in advance

Ok, here is the problem.... I want to be able to send a message to another user. I however wonder if there is a possible way to do it so that I can go through the browser. The computer is connected to the same network but under the "services.msc" in Windows XP that computer has the "Messanger" disabled. I could go to the trouble to enable it but wonder if there is a way to connect through the internet, (or network, or whatever), so that I can bypass all these problems and have some sort page pop up on their screen or just a pop up in the Browser. Or is there some sort of online program, (on a server), that I could use to just send an IM instead of both computers having to have something like AIM or something. I have tried PSST and net send only works if I have enabled "Messanger" through services.msc. Any ideas? Even if there is a way to telnet through the internet, is this a possability? Some way to connect as a messanger would. A prompt pop up is fine, she'll accept, I hope

My company got some fancy new software to monitor internet usage. How do they usually screen for people who are using the internet too much? Bandwidth used, forbidden sites visited, number of websites visited, time the internet explored is open, or what?

Hello,
I was recently messing around with my network connections in order to network all of my computers together. I never got it to work so I just gave up, however, when I tried to connect my laptop to the internet, i couldn't. All my other computers can connect to the internet just fine and when i plug an ethernet cable in, my laptop can also connect just fine. and my wireless tells me I am connected to the network, however I am sending packets but not receiving any... I have tried almost everything, resetting the router, disabling all firewalls, ect. and I am just all out of ideas. Please any help would be greatly appreciated as i have been working at this for over an hour now, and im getting very frustrated!!!

I just purchased a dell ispiron 1521, and am still in the process of getting everything set the way I like, I have a few questions and would appreciate some legitimate help. My laptop has vista on it, which is fun to figure out, i remember hearing that you can get any open windows to do a sort of rotation thing. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but if anyone knows what i mean that would be great. I have dsl at home and my dad has it set up through a router or modem or something i'm not sure, but i'm going to take it to cafes and places or work to get homework done. At work we don't have wifi and there aren't any local unsecure networks i could tap into, would i be able to bring a router with me? and set it up through that, i heard something about being able to use ethernet places. Again, i'm kind of a computer idiot, any ideas let me know. thanks

The problem is that when I set up my talk talk connect and go to my router via the rj45 ethernet on my desktop pc it comes up failed, network card incorrectly configured. I discovered that LAN 1 icon is missing in my network connections folder.(my notebook does have the LAN 1 icon and that was successful) I have LAN2 bluetooth and 1394 firewire icon but no other. I have tried to sort out the issue with talk talk but they are so busy. I'm sure this can be resolved easily and I've tried downloading a LAN driver from my motherboard manufacturer, tried installing a pci ethernet adapter which conflicted with my pc. I went to microsoft website and that was too techy - involving registry changes, etc. I'm not a boffin but i'm sure i'm not a total thicko!
Anybods got any ideas?

my pc credentials are:
date of manufacture 26/9/2002
legend 201 pc
2.5 ghz 512 mb
columbia m'board
windows xp pro-originally it had xp home, and millennium installed before now

I've posted a similar question recently, but I still can't get everything to work together -I'm not very good with technology... Help please!

We have a regular desktop computer, a cable modem, and VoIP phone service all completely installed, functioning together, good to go. Now, I just bought a new laptop and a wireless router that I want to add to all of this. I want to be able to access the internet wirelessly, with my laptop. That's not too much to ask, right? Right. But, having the VoIP phone service connections to the modem is throwing off the instructions that I should be able to follow when connecting the router. The directions don't explain what to do in my case. Does anyone have a clue and can talk me through the proper connections and what goes where???? I'd really appreciate it! BestBuy's GeekSquad will cost $160 to come to my home and do it for me.... I really don't want to pay that! A free answer from a smart person would be awesome!
