Ethernet "cord" goes from your computer to ..... What?

Router?

Sounds like, because of the error message you are getting, the computer has recognized the connection of the ethernet cable to the ethernet card, but that's all.

Make sure the other end of the enternet cable is plugged in to the right port on the router. Most routers have 4 ports, try a different one on your's.

Of course the simplest way to test this would be to get another Ethernet cable and replace the one you have. If this doesn't fix it then try plugging the router end into a different port, perhaps you have a bad jack on the router.

And if THAT doesn't resolve it then maybe you have a bad jack on your computer.

Observing the lights on your router along with the indicator on the computer while you wiggle the cable may also lead you to the culprit.

the problem is either with the cord, your computers NIC or the router, etc. that the Ethernet cord is connected to.
