Hi,

I work for a company with no resources to buy a Windows Server Licence. I have heard about linux systems that can control AD domains. I am having a lot of trouble managing the network these days without a domain. As I know nothing about linux, I was wondering if anyone could point me to a website, or the name of a distribuition where I can do that, and that is not too complicated (if existent).

Anyone?

Any help is apreciated.

Thanks in advance

Basically you can indeed use Samba as a domain controller and PDC etc. which is what you really are after. Active Domain is Microsoft's idea of how, but in the linux world there are better faster and much less outrageous to control methods.

This white paper discusses options available to bring Unix, Linux, and Java systems and applications into an existing Active Directory identity management framework for increased security, greater operational efficiency, and a path to compliance.

The key to having Linux do this is getting Samba setup. Samba is the program which allows Linux to see Microsoft computers and shraes as if it were also a Microsoft clinet or server.

It sounds like you attempt to put up your mail server to the web? you go with to make dns transformations (mx and a) at your area registry, request opposite dns out of your ISP, and open SMTP ports on your router.
