If your hardware is needing the drivers. Connect your machine to the internet with an ethernet cable and go to
http://www.smc.com/index.cfm?event=downloads.searchCriteria&localeCode=EN_USA
download the drivers for your USB stick (need model number etc) and reinstall them. (That is what is on the CD!)

Generally the issue you describe is caused by not having the correct IP and even WEP/WPA security codes set. Since I don't know what you are connecting into, your router, a public hot spot etc. I don't know what to answer nor will anyone else.
If the wifi connection shows in your Network Adapters then your driver is probably installed.

A wifi connector takes two things, A proper receiver on the computer and a router/AP/hot spot to connect into.

If the "transmit" end doesn't allow the connection you get exactly what you say you are seeing! You can indeed "see" the transmitter and send to it, but YOU can't receive from it, it ignores you.

If you are "borrowing" a connection they may well have locked you out! If its your connection, check the router/AP to be sure it is setup to allow connections and check the security code (you should set one) to be sure you are entering the correct information when you make the connection. You should set your wifi to use "DHCP" and not need to set the IP etc.

Good Luck

Sometimes the Wireless and LAN network connections get corrupted and they can't establish a solid connection.

If you follow this procedures it might solve your problem.

- Right click "My Computer"
- Select "Manage" from the options
- Go to "Device Manager"
- Go to the "Network Cards" section
- Select your wireless network card from the list
- Hit the delete button to remove the wireless card
- In the top of the window there must be a "Action" menu, click "Scan for Hardware Changes"

This will re-install your wireless card and configure a new wireless connection. That said, you will need to enter the WEP or WAP key again to connect to your wireless network.

If you have DHCP enabled in the router you should be done. If not, you will have to manually configure your TCP/IP and DNS settings to become part of the network.

Hope this helps.

What type of wireless device? External or Internal (Add on or Built In)? Is this the new device? If this is new device, the computer is asking for driver CD. provide the information then someone will be able to help you!
