Me and a friend, jokingly were sending dirty e-mails to each other in college the other week, I of course, promptly deleted them before the lesson was over.
Someone then told me that everything deleted off student accounts went into a folder where the college checked everything before it was deleted off the network altogether.
Were they just trying to get me worried or is this actually possible?
The teachers can get access to my monitor and see what I'm doing when I'm actually logged on, but surely no one can check my deleted things, can they?

(I wasn't too sure where to post this question to, but decided the computers and internet would be best because I'm hoping perhaps there are some network experts around here. :P)

My laptop doesn't seem to have a Local Area Connection, so i can't connect to the internet with it. I tried "Create a new connection" but the computer tells me it should be configured already, so that doesn't help. Anyone got any ideas on how to do it?

I have a mail server that has ~30 IPs attached to it. If I do a rDNS lookup it comes back to a FQDN and that FQDN resolves back to that ip. What are some reasons ISPs would fail. Could my system be technically correct though not follow best practices?

(I know this is a big question and difficult to answer without the IPs and Domains in question)

I want to find a way to share files between my Desktop computer (XP) and my laptop (Vista) without having to use removable media.

I have a wireless network. It would also be helpful to be able to transfer data across the different XP desktops in my house. I've created a sharing folder but none of the other computers seem to recognise it.

Help? Please?

I didn't know how to word the question. My son has a pc in his bedroom. I have one in the dining room. We have one modem so we have to continually unplug it & carry it back & forth between the rooms when one of us want to get on the internet. I also have a linyx router. It works but doesn't have any extras besides the plug in cord. I have extra ethernet cords but no instructions on how to or ways to use it.

Is there anyway I can set these pcs up so that we don't have to keep carrying the modem back & forth? Another modem is too expensive. But I get tired of having to go into his room when he's gone or asleep to get the modem & bring it back to mine so I can get on the internet.

A link or step by step of how to would be gratefully appreciated as well. Though I've had web access for almost 10 yrs. I've only recently had the courage to do much beyond download software.

Thanks to all & God bless!

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to have a gigabit router and network card, but I can't find a cable router with a gigabit connection. I would think it would make sense.

Please provide specifics. The motel is small, 30 units. it is layed out in a L-like shape, each leg being appx. 200ft long. It is 2 levels, with brick walls. We're finally getting internet run to the motel, but they say I have to put in the router and anything else needed myself. I've heard some routers won't handle as many people as others, I'd also like to be able to accomodate the various standards (are the g, n, etc. all compatible for instance or do I need a router that will handle all of them?). I doubt all 30 rooms will ever be all be logged in at once. Please be specific in your answer, for instance, a model of router or specific names would be helpful. Thanks.
