We recently started using Yahoo AT&T DSL and I need to hook it into my laptop for work, but I'm not sure how to do it and I don't want to mess up my internet connection.

Since this is a work computer, check with your IT department at work first. If the laptop is part of a domain, they may have it locked so that it can not join a home workgroup. Switching it could cause the laptop not to connect when you return it to work. (See this a couple times a week.) So start there.

If there is any special configuring you need to do, the IT people will be able to give you the instructions.

If not, then you would simply run a cable from the DSL modem to your PC, it should get an IP address from the modem and be able to access the Internet. No set up involved.

If you want to run the laptop AND your home PC, you will need to install a router (wireless or not). To use it, you would simple run the Wireless Wizard in the control panel. (Again, check with your IT people before doing that).

you should have a router that connects to the phoneline yes! On this there is a connector that looks like a phone connector but is a bit bigger!

This is called an RJ45 connector, use an ethernet cable and connect it to your laptop.

turn on your laptop and let it assign you an ip address
