you'll have all the answers. Router is the thing that will provide wireless internet to a laptop or a ds. If you dont have a router, no wi fi signal can be found. Unless you use the wi fi usb connector.

A router is a hardware product that comes inform of a box. There are different company's out there selling routers.
www.lynks.com
www.belkin.com

you would need them if you want to share your internet provider to talk to with other computers in your home. Example you want to share your ISP with your Laptop .

You need a router for that and a PC wireless notebook Card.
Ask your ISP provider first which of the above are working correctly with their service. As they can be a bit of tricky. Hope it helps. I just connected my Belkin router.

A router is a device that extracts the destination of a packet it receives, selects the best path to that destination, and forwards data packets to the next device along this path. They connect networks together,a LAN to a WAN for example, to access the Internet.

router juz like modem, but it does more than modem does. router itself has system page that contains a lot of setting such as NAT, QoS, firewall , Auto connect...etc.
with router , we dont have to power-on our pc logging to windows just to trigger the modem to connect to ISP.
ROUTER does them all. some modems can used as routers.
