You can still buy Windows XP. It will probably be worth the $90. I'm not sure what you mean by "crashing" your computer but suspect you mean you just turn it off instead of shutting down. Sooner or later that usually causes data corruption which appears to be where you are at now.

I keep all my software CDs in a music CD case. If there are any passwords or keys I write them right on the CD with a fabric marker.

Good luck.

Ok here are some suggestion that may help.
1st we need to get rid of the virus, If you have anti-virus that can use it.

Technical stuff
Ok if your PC boots from the hardrive, goto cmos (press del when the system restarts) then go to boot sequence, put Cd/Dvd-rom drive first to boot then save.

from here you can repair your Windows if you manage to remove the virus

2nd
Assuming you don't have an Anti-Virus that can boot try this:
Press F8 when your PC restart and choose "the last time the computer work" or some thing like that. If you manage to start windows run a anti-virus scan.

3rd
If that doesn't work restart again Press F8 and choose safe mode hopefully windows will start and you may run your anti-virus.

4th
If safe mode fails

Format your hardrive and install a new Operating system

If the anti-virus is not working. I mean that if it is not removing the virus. So the solution is that copy all your important documents and files. And format your PC... I also do this thing when a virus or some error keeps popping up. And doesn't go from the screen.

Try boot into safe mode and then do a system restore to see if this will help first.
