I want to find a way to share files between my Desktop computer (XP) and my laptop (Vista) without having to use removable media.

I have a wireless network. It would also be helpful to be able to transfer data across the different XP desktops in my house. I've created a sharing folder but none of the other computers seem to recognise it.

Help? Please?

*Update: I forgot to mention, all the computers are connected to the same router.*

*Update: This isn't a server based system, it's a home network. I do have "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" installed - apparently my network is using it.*

On one of the PCs, go into the Control Panel and run the Network Wizard. This should set up a home workgroup and allow you to turn on file sharing during the set up. At one point, it will ask you if you want to save the settings from that first PC to use on other PCs. Go ahead and safe them to a floppy or jump/pen drive.

Go to the other computer and run the Network set up wizard. It will ask you for the saved information from the first computer. It will use that to configure them the same so they can talk to each other.

Once both have been set up, you can go into My Network Places and View All the Computers in the workgroup. You should be able to see and access the other computer.

If you still can not see the other computers, try clicking on Start, clicking on Run, and typing in two \\ followed by the IP address of the other computer. (like: \\198.162.0.100). This will often allow you to see the other computer even if the network settings are not identical on them.
