Hi. We have a small computer network in our office of 4 pc's and a dedicated server. We had a problem yesterday and rebooted the server, which now refuses to turn back on! I tried everything...unplugging,replugging, holding down buttons. There are only 2 power switches on this damn thing, and all i get is a weird high pitched noise but no activity. I need help ASAP PLEASE how do i get this thing to turn on

i am paying for talk talk 3 broadband, which says up to 8MB
i was advised on here to go to http://www.speedtest.net and do a test, which i did.

Can someone please tell me what this means, and is it anywhere near what i am paying for. Sometimes i am happy with it, but i want to start web designing on this comp so need to know if it is any good (sorry rambling a bit now)
ok...it says...
Download 6060 kb/s
upload 373 kb/s
what does that mean please?
and if it is rubbish how do i speed things up. Apart from that i cannot change due to 18month contract
Thanks in advance

I am attempting to share an internet connection across once computer. When I try to enable windows ICS I get the message that the LAN already has assigned the needed IP to another object. As far as I have been able to figure out, the IP is 192.168.0.1 This is the IP my internal adapter needs to be set to, however it is also the IP that my wireless router is using for itself. Is there a way to fix this problem? I can't find a way to reassign my router. If it helps, it is a comcast modem/router box.

I have azureus and having trouble because it says I'm firewalled. I have a linksys router which I can connect to wirelessly, or with a cord. I am running Windows Vista and Windows Live One Care. In my one care it has something about ports allowed, but they are all numbers in the 4 digit range. The recommended ports are 5 digits.

If you can help, please tell me what to do in VERY BASIC BEGINNER TERMS. Assume I'm a computer dummy (well I sort of am).

Thank you in advance for your help.

Oh, and please only serious responses. I don't know if people have time to read your "just because I want to earn a point" responses.

I have a wireless d-link router that is currently being used with cables! LOL, I don't know why! I have 3 computers in my home 2 desktop & 1 laptop. Only dsktps are connected to internet and that is using ethernet cables...(we have broadband net). I am wanting to get set up wirelessly. One desktop & the laptop are brand new. The other computer (main one hooked up to modem and all) is a couple years old. I no absolutely nothing about setting up wireless router to anything so I am wondering if someone can tell me what exactly I need for the set-up process and do I need anything for the secondary desktp and laptop? Wireless network cards? Adapters? How does it all work/fit in together? It all confuses me! I'm pretty good on picking it up once I get the basics but it just isn't clicking for me...if anyone can pass along help for a wireless network "dummy", I'd appreciate it! Thanks so much!

I have Bellsouth DSL at 10mbps but is it always on? The reason I ask is because everytime I turn on my computer, I still have to click Bellsouth dsl and sign in. Of course, the sign in does only take like a second but I thought all types of broadband internet were literally "always on".

I recently located an old Windows 98 SE and I wanted to hook it up to the internet at our house. I have DSL and I have an old modem with the installation CD. I tried to install the drivers for the modem, but at the end it says it cannot receive a DSL signal (the light on it won't light up). I checked the phone line and used different ones, but nothing happened. I am using the splitter and ethernet hook-ups with no router.

So I was wondering if there is a special way to hook up multiple PC's on the same DSL line?

I can't get it to work. My brother just bought it. I installed the CD. I have the cables where they're supposed to be... but I think something is up about how all the lights stay on solid... whether the cable ports are empty or not, all the lights are on solid doesn't move from that state. I'm still getting no Internet connectivity. Can you tell me what to do?

I have a lexmark x1100 all in one printer connected to my windows xp desktop via a usb connection. I have a laptop running windows vista. Both computers are connected to a netgear rangemax wireless router. The desktop has a wired cnnection to the router and the laptop has a wireless connection. When I try to send a print request over the network from the laptop to the printer connected to the desktop. When I send a request to the printer it ays "problem comunicating to the printer". I have checked the usb cable and power cord, taking them out and putting them back in again as well as restarting both coputers. The vista machine has a vista printer driver installed for this printer. I assume that the desktop which running xp ust needs a drivr compatible with xp or does it need a vista compatibl driver?

Any help ould be greatly apreciate.

Thanks

i'm having trouble sharing my mom's computer's internet connection with my computer. i have a linksys wireless router but i'm actually connecting the two computers through the router with an ethernet cable. i can't seem to install the router correctly on my mom's computer, it won't get online when hooked through the router. she has windows ME, which i know is the first problem, but not one i can do much about, and also, when the PC starts up, it shows a username and asks for a windows network password. she bought the computer used, so we dont know the password. we just cancel out the login box. could this be why i can't install the router correctly?

I had to restore the connection between my laptop and desktop wireless connection. Following the XP set up wizard, I am able to see the files from my Desktop on my Laptop and access them, but I cannot see my Laptop files on my Desktop. I used a flashdrive to install the connection files, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Any suggestions?
