I have a lexmark x1100 all in one printer connected to my windows xp desktop via a usb connection. I have a laptop running windows vista. Both computers are connected to a netgear rangemax wireless router. The desktop has a wired cnnection to the router and the laptop has a wireless connection. When I try to send a print request over the network from the laptop to the printer connected to the desktop. When I send a request to the printer it ays "problem comunicating to the printer". I have checked the usb cable and power cord, taking them out and putting them back in again as well as restarting both coputers. The vista machine has a vista printer driver installed for this printer. I assume that the desktop which running xp ust needs a drivr compatible with xp or does it need a vista compatibl driver?

Any help ould be greatly apreciate.

Thanks

Vista driver for the printer would be a good place to start looking.

Stupid question: Is the XP workstation turned on??
I know you probably know this but just having the hub to the workstation will not work unless the PC is always on.

Try getting a wireless card for the printer.

Have you tried going through your file and printer sharing settings again.... Maybe you missed something

Trouble shooting over questions is harder then being there in person good luck

very correct, so in case you will hit upon your printers verbal replace (on suitable of subject concerns panel, off of the beginning up menu), you will possibly desire to be waiting to particular-click on the printer you bypass with for to proportion with the various desktops, and click "sharing." learn the "proportion this printer" container. installation the drivers for this printer on the XP pc, then bypass to "My community places." with a bit of luck, you will see the call of your Vista device there. Double-click on the Vista device (enter the log in tips for the VISTA pc), and you may desire to artwork out the printer you shared. Double-click on that, and keep on with the classes (putting forward particular to stuff) to get the printer set up. in case you may desire to no longer carry out a little of those subject concerns: it would desire to no longer artwork in case you haven't any longer have been given a password on the Vista device. Any pc it particularly is sharing stuff desires a password for the dating to artwork. confirm you used your call/password for Vista as quickly as you bearing directly to the Vista pc. Restart the pc after installation the print utilising rigidity. confirm the two desktops are in a similar workgroup (seem this up on line). good success.
