I have a wireless d-link router that is currently being used with cables! LOL, I don't know why! I have 3 computers in my home 2 desktop & 1 laptop. Only dsktps are connected to internet and that is using ethernet cables...(we have broadband net). I am wanting to get set up wirelessly. One desktop & the laptop are brand new. The other computer (main one hooked up to modem and all) is a couple years old. I no absolutely nothing about setting up wireless router to anything so I am wondering if someone can tell me what exactly I need for the set-up process and do I need anything for the secondary desktp and laptop? Wireless network cards? Adapters? How does it all work/fit in together? It all confuses me! I'm pretty good on picking it up once I get the basics but it just isn't clicking for me...if anyone can pass along help for a wireless network "dummy", I'd appreciate it! Thanks so much!

Any computer you want connected wirelessly to your router needs a wireless adapter. Most laptops come with them built in. To make everything talk to each other, you need to set up the wireless features of your D-link. You can do that either by running the CD that came with it, or browsing to the D-link manually (the address is usually 192.168.1.1 or similar).

The D-link manual should give you instructions on doing this.

first of all, your modem should have a cable running into the Dlink's internet/wan port.

The PCs that use an ethernet cable get plugged into ports 1,2,3, or 4.

To setup wireless, you will need a wireless adapter for the desktop and your laptop should already have a wireless card in it. You need to log into the Dlink and setup the wireless on the router. I highly suggest finding your instructions book for that.

Then the signal can be picked up by the wireless desktop and laptop.

You need to setup encryption type and key on your router, once thats done, your wireless computer should sense the router and prompt you for your encryption key.

Sounds complex but really is not
