I am attempting to share an internet connection across once computer. When I try to enable windows ICS I get the message that the LAN already has assigned the needed IP to another object. As far as I have been able to figure out, the IP is 192.168.0.1 This is the IP my internal adapter needs to be set to, however it is also the IP that my wireless router is using for itself. Is there a way to fix this problem? I can't find a way to reassign my router. If it helps, it is a comcast modem/router box.

I attempted to set the local network adapter to an IP address manually, but I'm unable to connect to the internet because as far as I can tell, if I turn on ICS it automatically trys to reset my IP. I need to hook it up this way because I only have one wireless adapter, and cannot run a cable to the router.

By default all routers will be assigned that IP (192.168.0.1)

It's generally not a good idea to change it.

What you need to do is change the IP address for the computer if it is already 192.168.0.1 (although it should not be).

Your computer should be set to 192.168.0.2 if its the only computer connected to the router. If you have multiple computers then those computers should have their respective IP addresses as well (192.168.0.3, 192.168.0.4, etc.)

Your router should have come with a manual and you should be able to change its settings by typing in "192.168.0.1" in the Internet Explorer. A window should appear that will allow you to type in the Admin name and the password (check your manual for these)

If you have modem and NOT a router then your computer should get the IP automatically when connected to the modem directly (and the IP would not be 192.168.0.1...but instead a random IP such as 75.168.101.67)

If you need to change the IP address to your computer (or if you want to see if your computer is connected to comcast with a proper IP address) go to:

START > RUN > Type in CMD > A window should open and you should type in IPCONFIG.exe

Try to read your manual or have someone with experience help you out if this is confusing.

you do have NIC's in your PC that you are using for ICS correct? Is it possible to manually set a different IP address to the second NIC, other then the default 198.169.0.1?

Sorry its been a while since I have used ICS.
