The wirless equipment that i was considering is http://www.ebuyer.com/product/117886

Ok the usb broadband modem you've got at the moment is the one that your isp gave you. This is the norm, you see they have a reason for this. These units take there power from your pc, so when your pc is shut down, so is your broad band connection. This is great for them, but not so great for you.

1. Your paying for always on broadband but your only using it when the pc is on.
2. As it pulls it's power from your pc, it's a drain on your resources and slows down your broadband connection.
3. You can't just turn your pc on and be on the internet, because you have to wait while it connects each time.

What you want is a broad band router. You can pick these up for between £40 - over a £100, depending what you want.
The router will allow you to connect multiple computers to the same broadband line. And also give you the advantage of having a home network which will allow you to share files and printers between those on the network.

The two best one's on the market at the moment, are Belkin and Netgear. The one thing I love with Belkin is there life time warranty. Any problems and they sort it out straight away. For example I had a dodgy power cable, I received a new one in the post first class a day and a half later. No problem!

You have the choice of cabled only, this means each pc will require you to have an Ethernet connection.
Or
Wireless and Cabled.
Other things you need to take in account when buying a broad band rounter are :
Does it have a built in fire wall?
If so what does it use WEP, WPA or WPA2 if it's only WEP choose something else that has at least WPA. WEP is not that safe, it has many issues.
Then you need to look at what range it has and what the protocol is, 802.11g example.
And anther thing you may want to consider is a built in print server. This will allow you to share one printer with all other computers in your home. If you don't want this you can still share a printer, but it will just mean that the pc that has the printer connected to it will need to be on for you to use that printer. Then also check the data speed transfer rate.

My suggestion for you would be something like this one, for the price it's pretty good.

PS When you've got your router, if you need help setting it up email me through here and i'll write you a walk through.

But as a rule it's just a matter of entering your login details. Your line will already be set to your broadband provider. And you will not need to know any dial up number as was suggested above. As I've already stated your line is already set to your broadband provider. DNS settings are usually auto detected by the router, so no worries there either.

Well, you're on the right lines at least!

The USB adapter will be fine.

The router however doesn't mention whether it supports a USB connection that your Speedtouch connects with. (I suspect not).

You're going to need a Wireless Modem Router (that connects directly to your phone line in place of your Speedtouch, not along with it), along with an adapter like the one shown.

One major issue I see arising here is how would you interface your modem and the wireless router.
As you say, you have a USB modem. While the wireless router would, as far as I know, need a LAN link to your modem. Unless you have a LAN port on your speedtouch modem, its a show stopper. It would be a good idea to ask your ISP to change your modem to a model which has a LAN port.

As your modem is a USB modem you will not be able to connect it to that particular router. The router you need to purchase needs to have an ADSL modem integrated such as this one http://www.ebuyer.com/product/119374

Once you order the router you may need to contact orange for you configuration settings such as dial-up number and DNS settings... if you have no idea what this means then orange will easily be able to provide support on this.. especially with a popular router like a Netgear one!

Good Luck

Does that modem broadcast a wireless signal? If so, then go ahead and buy your adapter, install the software, connect the adapter, and you shouldn't have much trouble connecting wirelessly.
If it doesn't broadcast wirelessly, then you will need to get a wireless router in addition to the adapter.
