I have a laptop with a wireless card built into it. I have Road Runner Cable and have a wireless router in my room. Oftentimes, while I am connected here on the laptop to the wireless, it tends to disconnect and sometimes I have trouble re-connecting to the router. Why is that, when I am not even 10 feet away? I mean the router is in my room, and I am here in the living room. Why does it often disconnect, when I am soo close to the stupid router (it even happens in the room where the router is)? I mean I know that wireless is unreliable, but why? What is the cause of this? And yes, the cable lines have been checked and they are good..

I have a linkysis wifi router that I connect to the internet fine, without any password WEP or WAP but I cant access the router home page, 192.168.1.1 without providing a password. I usually just entered admin for username and password but it doesnt work anymore. Is it possible to get this password while I am connected to the router. I dont want to reset the router because I have some specially made settings that will be lost.
Thanks for any info.

When I switch the router off and on the connection comes back but only temporarily. I get an error message when I try to connect with the wireless network, even though it's still listed in my available networks window. THis is the 2nd router we have had this problem with. Could it be the cable modem? It happens with our Mac and our Windows-based computers. The desktop plugged directly into the modem maintains connectivity regardless.

Hello:
My home network has 3 PCs: 2 win XP, that don't have any problem for sharing files and folders, and 1 with 98, that can see all the PCs in the network but can't open shared folders in XP, just printers. I disabled xp firewalls but didn't work, so I think the problem is windows. This is all what I found at network properties in win98:

Configuration:
*client: Client for MS networks: start session and restore network connections
*client: start session in MS Family
*service: Share printers and files for MS networks: LM Ad:yes, main explore: enabled
*device: Telephon access adapter
*device: xircom Ethernet Network
*protocol: TCP/IP for telephon access adapter
*protocol: TCP/IP for xircom ethernet network

Main sesion starting: client for ms networks
Printers and files sharing: allow file access, allow printing with my printers

Identification:
PC Name: IBM (troubling PC)
Workgroup: home (the right workgroup)

Access Control: resorurces Access control

In XP I enabled file sharing

I recently found that I have a few faint wireless network signals in the upstairs corner of my house. I am wondering if there exists a device that could pick up those signals (I'm not sure where they are coming from) and amplify them in my house so that I could use my MacBook downstairs also.

Does anyone know a device capable of this given I don't know where the signal is from or what type of router is broadcasting it?

I have an organization with approximately 1000 users of whom 90% of them are remote users. These users will use VPN to access a web-based application in the organization's network. I want to set up a dedicated DNS server so that remote users accessing the network can be resolved by their hostnames. The thing is there are about 1000 remote users and 100 concurrent users at any time.

Am I able to set up a DNS server (using Microsoft Windows Server 2003) without setting up an Active Directory ? Can DNS run without AD ?

I have a Linksys WCG200 cable gateway modem rests itself after downloading a few mpg files. I'm totally frustrated with their cust service...you're on hold for 45 mins to India and they finally said they don;t know what to do. I've emailed their cust support and they never respond. The cable line and computer work fine. There is no firmware upgrade on the Linksys site...any suggestions (other than "buy a new modem")?
