My Belkin modem router boasts upto 54 mbps - but I've noticed my connection is much slower when on wireless rather than an older speed touch modem supplied by my isp (wanadoo/orange).

Should I look for a newer wireless modem or can I tweak things?

I can log into via: on the same network at home using Remote Desktop but I cannot do the same when I am on a different router (for eg. at my dad's house). I have a linksys wireless-N router, and a linksys wireless N external receiver. The internet is extremely slow, despite my computer saying I'm connected at 270 mbps. When I plug in with an ethernet cable everything works great.

The router is set up with all default settings. I've tried resetting it. My external wireless N receiver worked fine with my old router... a wireless B router. What could I do to fix this problem? Could the router perhaps be defective? Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I recently bought a Western Digital Net Center (NAS Drive). I plugged it into my wireless router and was able to access the hard drive wirelessly from my laptop. I was able to copy my files into the new NAS drive and I thought that was cool.

Now, my challenge is that I don't know how to access this drive from a remote computer via the internet. As long as I am inside my home wireless network, I am able to access my hard drive. But, if I was using a public computer or a computer at my friend's place, how do I access my Net Center hard drive?

i want to stop every chatroom at the lab of my college?

Out of the blue, my laptop has stopped being able to connect to the internet at my family's house. It won't connect wirelessly nor via a cable. Both ways I get the same message. "Can not renew IP address" and "Limited or no connectivity". Now I hadn't had this problem ever before. When I would visit from college, I would simply clear out the set IP and internet settings that were assigned to me to use on campus and set them to auto for when I am at the house. Worked fine. I had recently set up a proxy for my internet browser but had cleared that as well once I discovered that it was no longer doing what it was intended for. I have done everything I could possibly think of to fix this: reset router configs, disconnect all power to cable and routers, etc. I even made a direct link from the cable modem to my laptop and still the same error and doing that it would now seem that the problem is definitely with my laptop; a setting somewhere that I am missing perhaps?

Any help. Please!

I went to visit my son today in Ga. I got out the laptop and the icon came up telling me there was a wireless connection available. My son only has cable. I clicked on it and was online in no time. Is this legal? I didn't pay for it so can I get in trouble for this? Apparently someone in the neighborhood had wireless and I was in range.

I have 7 computers. (I have 5 roommates that i rent rooms to). I have over 70000 mp3's that need to go into a library on the server and as the library on the main server updates, the rest of the computers need to reflect. I tried ITunes......it works OK but it doesn't meet expectations. I would like to use a UPnP client that will utiize the sharing server of windows media player 11. It says you have to have windows vista on the client computers but i'm sure there is backend software that can also do this as the other computers aren't ready for windows vista vs my two.
