If you are using a wireless network then check your wireless device is active. If you are using a cable then check that your network cable is OK. You can check your network cable using a device called 'Cable Tester'.

well i don't really know what prompted that question, it's amlost like this follows on from something previous, but if you have an enabled ethernet port with no cable connected thats what will come up in the system tray. If you don't use an ethernet connection then ignore it.
You can right click on the taskbar (in XP) and choose properties then tick "hide inactive icons" and even customise which ones you don't want to show using the "customise" button.
Hope that helps,
N

If you are not connected to a Local Area Network you will get that icon and message from your system tray, it's normal.
You can switch that notifier off in properties for that connection

If you just want to stop that message appearing, right click your local area network connection and chose 'disable'.
Windows will no longer try and open this network connection.

it means your internet cord is disconnected or plugged in the wrong spot it could also mean your cable is bad. To fix the problem check to make sure your cord is plugged in all the way, if your using wireless then it doesn't make a difference.
